Hello,
I have a problem powering down my Asus L8400 laptop with kernels
2.4.22-xx. While 2.4.21 worked OK (with vanilla ACPI or sf.net acpi),
2.4.22-pre8, 2.4.22-pre10, 2.4.22-rc2, 2.4.22-rc2-ac1 and 2.4.22-dis7
(my current one) show the same problem.
The problem is that instead of powering down, after "Power down." shows up,
the kernel shows:
nsc-ircc, Suspending
Trying to free free IRQ3
Trying to free free DMA3
And nothing more happens. If then I use the SysRq to power off I get
a kernel BUG (that I don't think is related, as I don't presume the kernel
to work after being shut down):
SysRq: Power Off
scheduling in interrupt

I have done a few tests:
runlevel 2 equals gpm + network + cardmgr + sshd + xfs
runlevel 3 = 2 + atd, ntpd, syslog, autofs, portmap, postfix, rhnsd, crond,
anacron, xinetd, cups
runlevel 5 = 3 + GDM
runlevel 2 and powering down immediately works OK;
runlevel 3: OK
runlevel 5: FAIL
runlevel 2 + X (just the server, no clients): OK
runlevel 2 + sleep 120 ; poweroff: OK
runlevel 2 + startx: FAIL
runlevel 2 + mpg321: FAIL
echo 5 echo 5 > /proc/acpi/sleep works everytime. :)
So I don't know exactly what may be causing the failure to power down...
I attach more information about my machine below.
Regards,
Luciano Rocha

Luciano,
This does sound like a regression.
Can I trouble you to dump the info into a bugzilla report so we can make
sure it stays in the queue and gets fixed?
Thanks,
