just a user here, with a little android-kernel related experience who
also likes to tinker with the desktop kernel :)
Have you given the following patchset a try yet:

Not exactly sure if it addresses your problems but it improves
performance for me and other desktop users

Holy cow, that looks extremely promising. What version of the kernel is this compatible with? It looks like 3.11, but I'm not sure.

I started using it with a 3.10 kernel (V1, V2) and now have it applied
against a heavily modified 3.11 kernel (V2).
So I can't say anything whether it'll work with older versions of the
kernel but the following:
it's "stable" material which needs backporting to the longterm kernels ;)
