Hi everybody,
sporadically my machine hangs (no response to keyboard, can't connect
via network, no interaction via remote-control) and the last thing I
see (if I see anything at all) is something like

I've been looking through the archives of lkml concerning this
spurious 8259A interrupt but all I've learned is that I'm not the only
one having this problem. My apologies, if I've overlooked anything or
if this is not the correct address for my problem. (In this case,
hints concerning 'the-right-thing-to-do' would be appreciated.)
I'm not even sure, whether it's not only a symptom and the real
problem is anyting else, as for some people it merely seems to enlarge
the logs. But for me it indicates a complete hang.
The conditions leading to this lock up are not deterministically
reproducable (at least not to my knowledge), but if it appears I'm
always watching TV using my tuner-card. It seems to *help*, if I'm
trying to download something via ftp, although I have abstined from
that lately.
If I'm letting my machine idle, compile anything or compute anything
else w/o using the tuner-card, I don't have any problems.
Maybe some choking related to PCI-transfers?
If I remember correctly, I was only experiencing this problem w/ 2.4.x
kernels (some vanilla, some w/ patches from Alan) and w/ all versions
from Redhat's gcc-2.96.
I don't have APIC enabled, neither do I have a tulip-card. The current
kernel has been patched w/ v4l2-support, but I'm not using it. I
didn't try the bttv-0.8.x extensively, since I didn't manage to get
sound. To watch tv, I use xawtv-3.x (x = 48, right now).
I'm using a TEKRAM Board (P5MVP-A4) w/ a Via Apollo MP3, a Cyrix MII
(233 MHz) and 128 MB of RAM.
Below I've included some further information about my system. I hope
it's (enough to be) useful. If I forgot anything, please tell me. Or,
if you want me try something to hunt down the bug, I'll try my very
best.

This was 2.4.7-ac3 compiled w/ an earlier version of gcc
(2.96-85). And in deed, my problem was sometimes accompanied by a
'kernel: hdc: lost interrupt'. But this seems to have gone, because I
removed one disk from the system and moved hdc -> hda.
That there's such a long period between these two occurences, doesn't
mean, that my machine did not hang in the meantime, but I did not find
anything in the logs. Perhaps the messages didn't make it through?

I am having the same problem since several versions ago:
Jan 13 15:15:48 antoli kernel: spurious 8259A interrupt: IRQ7.
It always happens when X is started on the kernel tainted with the nvidia
module. But never gave any problem at all.
I've never reported it due the tainted version. But it seems it's not
directly related to nvidia driver nor the hardware.
I have an ASUS/Intel815 motherboard (BTW, the 8259A is the Intel programmable
interrupt controller).

Ive gotten the same message in my logs since Dec 30th. The very same day
I switched to Mandrake 8.1, with NVIDIAs latest drivers (2313) on a ASUS
Geforce 3 card. (Athlon 1.2GHz tbird, 512 MB RAM, ASUS A7V133 mobo with
raid chip).
I dont get a lockup though.
Ive had that message at the console a few times when X isnt running.
Doesnt seem to occur when X is running though.
