For anyone else interested, the latest patch to ext3 does appear to
properly apply to 17-pre4.

When can we expect to see these updates make it into the kernal proper
BTW?

Thanks. Yes, it's nice now the change rate has dropped. IMO, 2.4
is at the "just finished" stage, and the fine-tuning and polishing
now starts. IMO.

There have been a hundred or so downloads and no anguished squeaks,
so I'll ask Marcelo to merge in a day or two.

Excellent,
Since applying, ext3 x.16 to pre2 I have notice marked improvement in my
box'(s) stability, and responsiveness. With the Pre4 and the new ext3
patch I have noticed even greater responsiveness, and Memory use has
definately dropped...a kernal untar was almost certain to eat almost the
entire 512MB on the box I am typing this from...that is no longer the
case.
