Hi All,
I am running machine having 2.2.12 kernel and its been running under
moderate loads for 313 days. But now I find the kernel behaving errtically
including dumping core while running top and recovering sometimes. Any idea
why the machine has such a high system load? I would want to make this
machine run more longer time than to reboot. It would be a shame to reboot
the machine.
Any suggestions most welcome.
Thanks

Try dropping it down to runlevel 1 and make sure that all unecessary
running processes are terminated. Then try taking it back up to default
runlevel, you may have changed a few libraries under some programs.
Otherwise there isn't much linux-kernel can do for you ;) If you mention
VM problems Andrea might just get you to download
2.4.18-pre4-aa1-11-343-HF-aa23 ;) or someone will make you run a bazillion
benchmarks with X variations of -rmap, -aa, -preempt, ll, mini-ll, -ata,
-ac just to see wether your mp3s still skip ;)
Good Luck,

Hi All,
The culprit was a buggy 'top' part of the procps utils.
I am hopeful that the machines run for atleast for a year :-)
Thanks everyone for your help.
