This file is now shipped in bluez-pan and
bluez-libs: /usr/include/bluetooth/bnep.h

Marcel, I think another release of bluez-pan is needed.

don't worry too much about it, because the final release of hidp is not
expected very soon. I am going to add a prototype to my -mh patches and
that's it. However the bthid was never really released, so you are right
and I will deprecate it at some point and remove it from CVS.

It is needed to have hid support in 2.4 and doesn't metter which way it will
be supported. But I except, that you'll make bthid deprecated when hidp
kernel module will be released, so...

I don't really think so, because this is not an easy work and my focus
is on 2.6. However I added some missing stuff to hidd and it will be
enabled in bluez-utils-2.7 even if I haven't published a patch that
includes the hidp kernel module so far.

oh :( On my laptop bluez and few other drivers still oopses as I reported few
days ago...
I still can't use 2.6...

sorry for that, but actually your life (like mine) will be much easier
after the 2.7 release. You only have to decide how many packages you are
going to build from the bluez-utils source. However with that release we
have one init script (please name it /etc/init.d/bluetooth) that will do
the complete start and stop of all Bluetooth daemons if they are
activated.

The l2ping was already corrected and I fixed hciconfig now. Thanks.

the hidp kernel module is designed to implement only HIDP. It works
mostly the same way as BNEP and CMTP, but it needs a lot more
information from the SDP database of the remote device. Thus the
structures had to evolve over time and now I think I found the perfect
match on what the kernel has to know and what not. You can look at the
hidp_connadd_req struct in libs/include/hidp.h and see what I mean. The
problem of hidd at the moment is that it only fills in the sockets and
the report descriptor data. Once hidd had given the connection to the
hidp module everything else is done inside the kernel. This means that
you can even stop and restart hidd without losing your input device.

it is in there, but it is not installed by default. The worst case will
be you have to compile it by yourself and copy the binary. However you
need special kernel support for it and that will be the other problem.

Marcel,

can you write more info about this module? What will it take care of?
Only Human Interface Device Protocol? And hidd will serve events to it to
decode them instead of doing it by hidd?

Hi Michal,

not quite exactly. The init script looks a little bit different to
better blend in and to keep the stuff from bluez-pan. You can take a
look at it in CVS. However your question reminds me that I have to fix
up the install routine for that script.

The bthid will not be included. I already included the first rough steps
of the new hidd, which is going to depend on the hidp kernel module.
Right now I marked it as "noinst" and I am not quite sure if I am going
to change that before bluez-utils-2.8. However the code is there and I
think that I am going to release 2.6.6-mh1 with a prototype of that
kernel module.

Just when I thought my life was getting simpler :-)

btw, the section number in the l2ping and hciconfig man pages now
mismatches the suffix of the man pages. should be 8 rather than 1 if I
remember correctly.
