Subject: [Bluez-users] IBM Thinkpad A31p and Bluetooth

Hi folks -

I'm trying to get the Bluez bluetooth drivers working in kernel 2.4.22 on my
new IBM Thinkpad A31p. The laptop has a built-in (miniPCI?) bluetooth
controller in it, but I'm uncertain of the brand/model/etc.

# lsmod
Module Size Used by Tainted: P
hci_usb 9752 0 (unused)
rfcomm 38080 0 (unused)
l2cap 19948 1 [rfcomm]
sco 11084 0 (unused)
bluez 40676 0 [hci_usb rfcomm l2cap sco]

# hciconfig status
Can't get device info: No such device

# cd /usr/src/linux
# find . -name bluetooth.o -print
#

Any ideas as to what I can try? Perhaps I've missed a step or something?

Thanks.

send me the output of "hciconfig -a" after you brought this device up
and I can add the information to my list.

I found the tiny button just now, after staring straight at it for the last
couple of days. Duh.

laptop# hciconfig -a
hci0: Type: USB
BD Address: 00:00:00:00:00:00 ACL MTU: 0:0 SCO MTU: 0:0
DOWN
RX bytes:0 acl:0 sco:0 events:0 errors:0

Packet type: DM1 DH1 HV1

Link mode: SLAVE ACCEPT

Better.

this can be a problem, but I after searching a little bit I find some
texts that say such a switch must be there and that Bluetooth is working
with your notebook:

No Bluetooth device attached to the USB bus. You have to switch it on ;)

I went hunting through the BIOS for something like that and didn't find
anything. The manual isn't very handy and only mentions the option of
Bluetooth once. A quick hunt around the keybd also comes up with nothing.

as I know the IBM notebook's have a switch near the keyboard to switch
the Bluetooth device on and off. Or maybe there is a BIOS option. What
do /proc/bus/usb/devices say? I know that the IBM Ultraport module don't
set the Bluetooth class in the USB descriptor, so maybe we have another
one.

When you say "switched the Bluetooth device on" do you mean like my Palm?
My goal is to get the laptop and the Palm chatting with one another via
Bluetooth.

However, given the reading I've done (and it's quite possible I've misread,
so forgive my ignorance) the hci device should show up regardless of whether
there's another BT-enabled device around.

# hciconfig -a
#

I'm not seeing anything.

the Bluetooth adapter in this notebook is a USB based from CSR and it
should work perfect with the hci_usb driver. Have you switched the
Bluetooth device on?
