(Resending to the list, since for some reason my last attempt didn't get
through. Sorry if this is a duplicate.)

Thanks very much for the advice, this helps a lot! I was *that* close
to buying the Aiptek just to see whether or not it would work. That's
saved me a lot of trouble already.
After searching around, I decided on the Digitus "DN-3008", mainly
because of this website here, which specifies not only the chipset but
also whether it's the external or rom version, so I can be really sure
what I'm getting:
http://www.computerstore.co.nz/store/web/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=48&idproduct=94
I was tempted to buy it all the way from New Zealand, their website is
so unexpectedly helpful, but then I just decided to buy it off ebay ;-)
I'm slightly nervous that what I've bought is a "DN-3008M1", not a
"DN-3008", but I guess that's the kind of model number variation you
always get.
Just because I like to include lots of links for people who might find
this email through google, here are links to some of the other dongles
you mentioned...

Toshiba:

Thanks again!

I'd never heard of batchpcb.com before. Wow. That's very cool.
Clearly this hobbyist stuff has come a long way since I were a lad. I
wouldn't even know how to solder a surface mount component, so even
getting a batchpcb.com board is going to leave me several steps short of
a working dongle. Interesting thought though, especially since CSR has
a reference design here:

I've noticed these getting harder to find too.
fwiw the only -ext I have is the wt11-a-hci bluetooth module from
semiconductorstore.com. you still have to add a regulator and a usb
connector. It would be best if you could find someone integrating this
module or talk someone into laying it out for batchpcb.com

Not yet, I expect it to arrive next week. And I might not have time to
properly play with it until the weekend after. But I'll be sure to give
a report.

Have you received this yet? I'd like to hear some experiences. With a
little searching I found a source for the Toshiba adapter here in Finland,
but I thought why not go for a class 1 device?
