Subject: Any reason why 1.2.3.4/255.255.255.255 wouldn't be valid in exports?

A Debian user is reporting that this exports line:

/backup 192.168.0.8/255.255.255.255(no_root_squash,rw,async)

is causing trouble:

"From the client an 'rpcinfo -u nfsserver nfs' ended in a TIMEOUT."

Meanwhile this:

/backup 192.168.0.8(no_root_squash,rw,async)

works fine for him.

Bug? Feature? Something needing to be documented?
