I have a small problem, we have a customer with BMC cards and these
BMC cards use the same IP and MAC address the OS.
Certain application packets (NFS UDP) seem to match close enough to
what the BMC card/network firmware believes is one of its packets, and
the network firmware directs these packets to the BMC and the OS never
sees the packet.
I have identified via a network trace that the 32k NFS read is sent
out by the server, and one single packet of the 32k is not received, and
the client asks for a retransmit, and again the exact same packet is of
course lost, and this repeats until we delete the file on the server
and cause things to abort.
The packet in question has 0x026f in the 0x24/0x25 position. The full
dump is below.
I am being told that this is the UDP port number, since this problem
appear to be data dependent, and I would believe if things where generating
random port numbers that I should hit this port fairly quickly under load,
and I do not, we only hit this problem with certain types of on-disk data.
I suspect that this may be data or internal nfs data structures or something
similar. I have not yet looked at the specifics of how a UDP/NFS data stream
is broken up. Things do work under tcp.
Is there anything I can do on the client to disallow it from using this
port, if it is a port? Changing the server is not really an option as
there are lots of different servers running various oses.
