I'm not the only one to have experienced this bug. I've been suggested to report that to kernel mailing list by linux support channels.

I've tested this bug against upstream 6.6.2 kernel tarball from the latest stable branch [1].

To solve this issue. I've also tried to patch mt7601u driver disabling mcu calibration. Which doesn't seem a wise idea because apparently it fixes probing but also hangs completely the machine after some seconds (so, it needs a hard/forced shutdown).

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

Cristian.

Does it work with the vendor driver? The upstream driver is just
a rewrite of the vendor driver, I don't know much about the device
internals.

Maybe Lorenzo or Felix have some ideas.

I remember I tried the device with the vendor driver [1] (which is not compatible with mainline) and it should work in that case. I noticed there is a datasheet somewhere out around, BTW I've also found information here [2] and here [3] about the driver and devices shipping this chip under several brands.

Indeed, I dared to fw and cc them in order to join this discussion.

Cristian.

[RESEND I've made a mistake with list of recipients]

Update:

I've built and installed mt7601Usta vendor driver, which is shown into lsmod output.

ra0 interface appears as shown in the following output from iwconfig and ifconfig:

ra0 Ralink STA ESSID:""
Mode:Auto Frequency=2.412 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
Bit Rate:1 Mb/s
RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Link Quality=10/100 Signal level:0 dBm Noise level:0 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

ra0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:00:00:00:00
BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisioni:0 txqueuelen:1000
Byte RX:0 (0.0 B) Byte TX:0 (0.0 B)

The driver is properly loaded and the device doesn't connect/disconnect continuously as instead happens in mainline driver:

Bus 001 Device 007: ID 148f:7601 Ralink Technology, Corp.
|__ Port 3: Dev 7, If 0, Class=vend., Driver=rt2870, 480M

Any thoughts?

Waiting for a reply,

Cristian.
