Hi list!
On an old system with only USB 1.1, I tried to use a USB-dongle:
NETGEAR WG111v2. The device works perfectly with same kernel (2.6.26-1
from debian lenny) on a new system with USB 2.0, using the "rtl8187"
driver.
However, on USB 1.1 I get:

[Longer part of syslog follows later in this post]
I tried to use the device on two USB 1.1 systems, both failed with the
"association frame received ... but not in associate state - ignore",
message.
Is USB 2.0 required, or is there a workaround for this problem?
Here is the output of lsusb:

Q. What is that strange attachment in this mail?
A. My digital signature, see http://www.gnupg.org for info on how you could
use it to ensure that this mail is from me and has not been
altered on the way to you.

Can you shut down NetworkManager and wpa_supplicant and try
association with iwconfig manually?
Sounds like wpa_supplicant mis-config for me, so you might want to
review your config.

I just bought a WG111v2 on E-Bay last week. Once it arrives, I will be
able to test the performance of this device.

A) The network I was trying to associate to was not encrypted.
B) I did try iwconfig manually, but I did not keep the logs (and the
computers in question belongs to a friend, so I can't easily repeat).
Given A), can a mis-configured wpa_supplicant still be the problem?

Yes and it works.
Once I got the device, I found and fixed two main problems in the
driver for the RTL8187. The first keeps mac80211 from adjusting the
wireless rate, and the second hurts the power setting for OFDM rates.
Both of these are fixed in the latest wireless-testing and in
compat-wireless.

Yes. Almost nothing I changed dealt with the USB interface - just with
the TX part of the code. The part that did affect USB fixed a stalling
problem on both 1.1 and 2.0.

Have you had the possiblity to try it on USB 1.1 yet?

Did it work on USB 1.1 even without your enhancements?
