Im still running a 2.6.11
Ever since some PCI changes (between 2.6.11 and 2.6.15) I have been
unable to build a kernel that will run with my machine on an
Intel D945 Motherboard.
I just tried vmlinuz-2.6.16-rc5-git8 and still no luck, the kernel builds,
but during the first few lines of the boot you get the message:
PCI: Failed to allocate mem resource #6 ...
Ive tried stripping things down to just the video card, and still the same
result.
This Motherboard has been available for the better part of a year, and
still no Linux support. Usually by the time I buy something, its supported.
Anyone working this problem?

Mine works, but I expect that we don't have the same video card.
Mine is intel integrated video.
So like Lee said, we need more info.

For what its worth, this is a D945GNT
It has ICH7 series Video/Sound/Ethernet on board.
The Video works in vesa mode, but not in native mode.
The sound is not recognized.
The ethernet is recognized by some kernels, but does not work.
It has ATA and SATA which both work.
My sound card is a Nvidia 6600, it works fine with 2.6.11.
At the moment I run with a 2.6.11 kernel, an ethernet card and a Soundblaster.
Other than the Onboard hardware not being supported, things work with the
2.6.11 kernel. this PCI error only occurs with later kernels.
I could play halfsies to determine just when the PCI error starts, but
another responder had noted that he had similar problems after some
'large PCI changes' (Im sure he mentioned what version they occurred
in, but it would take some searching to find his e-mail)

I meant, narrow it down by identifying the change that broke it.
"Somewhere between 2.6.11 and 2.6.15" is not helpful.

The HD (high-definition) audio driver works for me.
Are you using a vendor/distro kernel or roll-your-own?

Maybe try the latest e1000 driver from
http://sourceforge.net/projects/e1000/

Can you post the complete boot log instead of one line of it?

Since my last tests, the onboard sound does seem to work.
Mabe installing the SoundBlaster Intimidated it...

Both boot logs contains the Cannot messages.
The "bad" log also contains:

Is there an updated NVRM driver for it (guessing from your OK boot log)

It was probably incorrect mixer settings or a buggy mixer app like Kmix.

Hi Reg,
I think you'll need to file a bug at bugzilla.kernel.org for this,
including the boot logs (good + bad), lspci -v, etc.
