Hi all,
I have a 3ware 75xx P-ATA controller, which has been working in 2.6.15-rc2.
Today I have tried to upgrade to 2.6.16.18, and it cannot boot - the
controller cannot access the drives, with the attached messages.
I have also tried 2.6.17-rc5 with the same results.

An additional note: I use "iommu=off" boot option (I had some
problems using IOMMU in the past, so I have disabled it). Without
this option, 2.6.16.18 boots correctly (I have not stress-tested the
system yet, so I don't know whether the IOMMU problems are solved).
But nevertheless, it would be nice to have 3ware driver working
even with iommu=off.

Can you narrow down which kernel version first introduces the breakage,
between 2.6.15-rc2 and 2.6.16.x?
And we will need much more information on your platform, what patches
(if any) you have applied, your .config, dmesg, etc.

It would be difficult, because the server is in production use.
I may do some tests over the weekend.

Tyan S2882 dual opteron 244, 12GB RAM, Fedora Core 3 system
(altough I have tried to compile the kernel with FC5 compilers as well).
Here are the lspci outout, the relevant parts of .config, and dmesg of
the kernel booted without "iommu=off" option.

It looks like this controller only supports 32-bit DMA addresses. For
some reason it's trying to feed in an SG list with addresses over 4GB,
which fails. I'd think this configuration should work, but maybe not?
It looks like you have IOMMU turned off - I think you'll really want to
turn that on with that much RAM (12GB). Even if this case did work as
well as it could, without IOMMU the kernel would have to bounce-buffer
the data below 4GB which will kill performance.

It worked in 2.6.15-rc2.

Yes, I had problems with IOMMU in the past, so I used to run the
kernel with IOMMU turned off. Now I have turned it back on, and so far
it is working correctly. However, I think the 3ware driver should work even
with iommu=off (as it used to in 2.6.15-rc2).
