doest memtest86 pass? which modules are in use?

Do you have the earliest kernel messages still in the log buffer (e820 map etc.)?
If yes can we see them.

Did any earlier kernel work?
What is your .config?

Does it help when you apply

ftp://ftp.firstfloor.org/pub/ak/x86_64/quilt/patches/e820-small-entries ?

It did pass some month ago.

> which modules are in use?

no modules as this kernel does not have module support.

> (it looks like something splattered all over your memory)

The same machine is now running 2.6.18.2 + Nick Piggin's rmap-debug
patch with no problems so far. Prior to my test with 2.6.19-rc5 it was
running 2.6.18.1 + Nick's patch.

This is a cluster node btw, so it it stressed heavily.

I included all that dmesg gave me. syslog logs to another host and this
has the following addditional lines in its log file just before the "Bad
page state in process 'swapper'" messages:

Nov 10 09:29:41 192.168.1.120 kernel: No module symbols loaded - kernel modules not enabled.
Nov 10 09:29:41 192.168.1.120 kernel: mapcount:1 count:0
Nov 10 09:29:41 192.168.1.120 kernel: Trying to fix it up, but a reboot is needed

Nothing about a e820 map though.

> Did any earlier kernel work?

yes. 2.6.17.x and 2.6.18.x all worked with no problems.

> What is your .config?

See below.

OK I will try this. Can't promise if I will be able to do so today, as I
have to wait until the currently running jobs are finished.

Thanks
Andre
