Subject: sdhci: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C822 SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro Host Adapter - disabling IRQ

I'm using my brand new HP 8510w laptop with kernel 2.6.25 (Debian kernel
2.6.25-2-amd64 version 2.6.25-5 to be exact) and the integrated memory
card reader is detected by the sdhci kernel module.

However, about 10 minutes after boot I get the following message in
dmesg (pid and process may change of course):

When sending bug reports, you should have a look in MAINTAINERS and
make sure you cc the relevant people responsible for the part of the
kernel you're having problems with. Thankfully Andrew Morton noticed
your mail and forwarded it to me.

Do you have a card in at this point? And can you give me a complete
dmesg dump. The sdhci hardware might not be the culprit, but just a
trigger in that it enables that interrupt line.

No, no card present during the entire time from boot until the above
message.

I see that you have an iwl4965. I got this precise problem when I
toggled the rfkill switch on my laptop. It is fixed in 2.6.26 though.
Could you try upgrading the kernel and see if it's the same bug?

Weird. What kind of efforts have you done in determining the source of
this interrupt? As I mentioned, I find it hard to believe that the card
reader is doing this as it is completely passive until you insert a
card.

Have you tried booting in a single user mode? Or with a minimal set of
modules loaded?

Interesting, I have the same problem when I turn on my wifi and
bluetooth (b43 + hci_usb). However, it's my firewire controller which is
on IRQ 19. So, could it be one of those hardware components generate an
interrupt on #19 when turned on?

Sorry for the delay, vacation times :)

Anyways, it seems that you were right, the interrupt problems doesn't
seem to stem from the card reader...

I've tried a lot of things, I even bought two microSDHC cards to
experiment with and I've booted into a limited initramfs with no modules
loaded and then done the same thing with only the sdhci module loaded.

In the end, it turns out that if the iwl4965 is disabled (e.g. via the
rfkill button) and stays disabled, no error message is generated (I
waited for > 30 minutes). If I later enable it and connect to my
wireless AP, I get the error message approx 10 minutes after I've
connected to the AP.

Does this mean I should contact the iwl4965 maintainers?

Yes indeed. Since this is an issue that has been present previously, it
hopefully isn't that hard to fix.
