Neat! I saw Manfred posted this driver for 2.6.x, as well. I'm glad
soembody FINALLY got around to supporting this chipset under Linux.

Anyway, even with an alpha-quality driver, it's a driver that works
where otherwise the kernel doesn't. So, after I review the driver, I
would prefer to merge it soon rather than later. It gets users going,
after all.

Has nVidia yelled yet? Since it's cleanroom, according to you, I don't
see any problems at all...

to avoid using a potential trademark as a filename...

I would prefer to avoid the issue completely, rather have to chase down
some lawyers and get a definitive answer.

We (Manfred, Andrew and I) debated the name for quite a long time and
forcedeth, forced and forceeth were the final candidates. forcedeth was
not only a descriptive name, but also a clever pun. So it won the compo.

I tested this driver for my Nforce2 mobo on 2.6.0-test9, and this driver
seemed useless, it just printed some random numbers in my konsole (And
trust me, it was hard to edit lilo.conf so I even could boot back to old
kernel when all the numbers just were jumping around) And it broke the
other card too, ifconfig was right, now there was this card too, but no
one from them worked. Thanks anyway.

And this is why you always leave at least one "known working" kernel in your
lilo.conf or grub.conf (I think I've got at least 4 kernels listed right now
that are known to boot and be at least stable enough to build a kernel). Also
good for recovering from broken framebuffer drivers, kernels that hang at boot
before getting very far, and all sorts of other messes.

Yeah, I have two "known working" kernel's there. but the machine can't
be booted many times. so I decided to change it and I did.

The driver has full debugging enabled, and that includes hexdumping the
start of every packet. This should disappear if you replace the "#if 1"
with "#if 0", around line 80.

So far I received two bug reports:
- smp locking is broken (stupid bug, I have a fix)
- sometimes a wrong mac address is used (unresolved)

Does it work with nvnet? Could you mail me the logs and the output of
lspci -vvvxxx
as root? Running lspci as user will not give enough info.

usually when I boot up it mount's the remote filesystems, now it just
failed, and I tryed to ping lan/internet IP's they failed. And I noticed
that none of my cards were working. this is the output of lspci for the
card that works without forcedeth support in kernel and does not work if
forcedeth is enabled:

That's the main card that I use for lan/internet. ifconfig in the other
hand told me that I had two working cards. first on had ip 192.168.0.2
(that's right) and the new card had 192.168.1.1.

Please compare the mac addresses listed by ifconfig: I guess that the
nics changed their names, the nforce chip is now eth0 and the realtek is
eth1, or vice versa.
