Dear Linux folks,

Testing commit 2f189493ae32 (i2c: i801: Add lis3lv02d for Dell XPS 15

the warning below during ACPI S3 suspend:

The driver is just buggy here AFAICT, it's powering off the device in
both runtime suspend and runtime resume so if the device is runtime
suspended when system suspend happens then it'll power off the device
again. The runtime suspend and system suspend need to talk to each
other here.

Mark, many thx for your reply:

/me reads that as "buggy even before 2f189493ae32, that commit just
exposed the problem"

Well, that was 6 days ago and nothing further happened. Makes me wonder:
Who will look into this? And when? If not any time soon I guess we
sooner or later should consider revert this. Yes, the problem is "just"
a warning, but well, it's not "just" a warning for people using
panic_on_warn...

Paul, just to be sure: I assume reverting 2f189493ae32 fixes the problem?

Ciao, Thorsten

I have a laptop with a lis3lv02d where I can try to reproduced Paul's
problem. I expect this to reproduce on any Dell with the lis3lv02d
so reverting 2f189493ae32 won't help, it fixes the problem on
Paul's model but not on other Dell models which use the lis3lv02d
driver.

Anways I plan to look at this sometime next week.

Regards,

Hans

This is actually happening on all models in the DMI match list for creating
an lis3lv02d i2c-client if a SM88xx ACPI device is present.

This is caused by:
b1b9f7a49440 ("misc: lis3lv02d_i2c: Add missing setting of the reg_ctrl callback")

Which fixed lis3lv02d_poweroff() never turning off the regulators.

But that exposed a bug in the suspend/resume handling.

I have reproduced this on a Latitude E6430 and I'veposted a fix for
the suspend resume handling upstream:
https://lore.kernel.org/regressions/[email protected]/

Hans
