replying on an old thread
looks like i have the same problem as below
kernel 2.4.20 intel sc7500cw mainbord (dual xeon)
booting with noapic appended resolves the lost interrupt messages
(only happens on the TX4 disks (there is also an onboard
FastTrak100(2channel)which works ok)
I don't use the promise raid code, just using the card to use some extra
ide channels for my sw raid5
i get exactly the same error when booting :

the tx4 always gets irq48 (not shared with anything else)
only booting with noapic fixes it
(are there any negative point when running in 'noapic mode' ?(besides
losing high irq's))

Try to boot with apic=no or acpi=oldboot
however this both options work for me.
I have supermicro 370dl3 dual PIII 1Ghz, and TX2 card.

I just saw, and fixed, a very similar problem last night (lost interrupts,
but partition table was eventually read). The system was a dual Xeon on a
P4DP6. The Promise card was an Ultra100TX2. The OS was RedHat 7.3.
The fix was to increase the bus master time for the PCI slot in the BIOS.
This was also tried under SuSE 8.1, where it did NOT work.

did some more tests today :
plugged the fasttrak tx4 into 3 different machines
all smp (dual p3/dual p2/dual xeon)
with all i get lost interrupts
if i boot with noapic problem is solved
(tried updating the bios for the promise, but doesn't help)
looks like there is really something wrong with the (bios?) tx4
i have 3 of these cards here
putting 2 together in an mainbord also doesn't work (then the tx4 bios is
complaining about no assigned irq)
and if i use 1 card in a system, i always have to press 'esc' to continu
after the bios tells me there is no array
i really think i should have bought the highpoint 4 port cards :(

ultra100tx2 / ultra66 cards work ok in the machines i tested it in (and
also the onboard fasttrak100 on the xeon server (intel mainbord))

does it 'hurt' running in noapic mode?
or is it only for more irq's available for devices ?
