Subject: [PATCH v9 0/22] Refactoring Microchip PCIe driver and add StarFive PCIe

This patchset final purpose is add PCIe driver for StarFive JH7110 SoC.
JH7110 using PLDA XpressRICH PCIe IP. Microchip PolarFire Using the
same IP and have commit their codes, which are mixed with PLDA
controller codes and Microchip platform codes.

For re-use the PLDA controller codes, I request refactoring microchip
codes, move PLDA common codes to PLDA files.
Desigware and Cadence is good example for refactoring codes.

----------------------------------------------------------
The refactoring patches total number is 16,(patch 1-16)
which do NOT contain changing logic of codes.

These patches just contain three type basic operations.
(rename, modify codes to support starfive platform, and moving to common file)
If these patched are all be reviewed. They can be accepted first.

Refactoring patches can be devided to different groups
1. (patch 1- 3 is the prepare work of refactoring)
patch1 is move PLDA XpressRICH PCIe host common properties dt-binding
docs from microchip,pcie-host.yaml
patch2 is move PolarFire codes to PLDA directory.
patch3 is move PLDA IP register macros to plda-pcie.h

2. (patch4 - 6 is processing and re-use PCIe host instance)
patch4 is add bridge_addr field to PCIe host instance.
patch5 is rename data structure in microchip codes.
patch6 is moving two data structures to head file

3. (patch 7 - 9 are for re-use two PCIe setup function)
patch7 is rename two setup functions in microchip codes, prepare to move
to common file.
patch8 is change the arguments of plda_pcie_setup_iomems()
patch9 is move the two setup functions to common file pcie-plda-host.c

4.(patch 11 - 16 are for re-use interupt processing codes)
patch11 is rename the IRQ related functions, prepare to move to
pcie-plda-host.c
patch 12 - 15 is modify the interrupt event codes, preparing for support starfive
and microchip two platforms.
patch16 is move IRQ related functions to pcie-plda-host.c

------------------------------------------------------------
The remainder patches (patch 17 -20) are not refactoring patch.
They are for adding StarFive codes and dont modify the microchip's
codes.

patch17 is Add PLDA event interrupt codes and host init/deinit functions.
patch18 is add StarFive JH7110 PCIe dt-binding doc.
patch19 is add StarFive JH7110 Soc PCIe codes.
patch20 is Starfive dts config

This patchset is base on v6.6-rc6

Subject: [PATCH v9 05/20] PCI: microchip: Rename two PCIe data structures

Add PLDA PCIe related data structures by rename
data structure name from mc_* to plda_*.

axi_base_addr is stayed in struct mc_pcie for it
is microchip its own data.

The event interrupt codes is still using struct
mc_pcie because the event interrupt codes can not
be re-used.

The modification includes:
mc_pcie --> plda_pcie_rp (Get most of data members)
mc_msi --> plda_msi

Subject: [PATCH v9 12/20] PCI: microchip: Add request_event_irq() callback function

PolarFire implements specific PCIe interrupts besides PLDA
local interrupt. For PLDA lack of MSI controller, these
interrupts can not be added to MSI. Polar driver also register
these interrupt symbol name.

PolarFire PCIe contain total 28 interrupts event while PLDA
contain 13 local interrupts event, interrupt to event
num mapping is different.

So add a callback function to support different IRQ register
function. Also Add PLDA default handler function, which will
be moved to pcie-plda-host.c in moving codes patch.

Subject: [PATCH v9 14/20] PCI: microchip: Add get_events() callback function

PolarFire implements their own PCIe interrupts,
which added to global PCIe field for PLDA lack of
MSI controller, the interrupts to event num mapping
is different to PLDA local interrupts. So add
get_events() function pointer.

Also add struct plda_event_ops function pointer structure
to struct plda_pcie_rp.

plda_handle_events() will call the get_events() callback
function pointer directly. For the robustness of codes,
add checking in plda_init_interrupts().

Subject: [PATCH v9 10/20] PCI: microchip: Rename interrupt related functions

Rename mc_* to plda_* for IRQ functions and related
IRQ domain ops data instances.

MSI, INTx interrupt codes and IRQ init codes are all
can be re-used.

- function rename list:
mc_allocate_msi_domains() --> plda_allocate_msi_domains()
mc_init_interrupts() --> plda_init_interrupts()
mc_pcie_init_irq_domain() --> plda_pcie_init_irq_domains()

Subject: [PATCH v9 17/20] PCI: plda: Add event interrupt codes and host init/deinit functions

PLDA implements new codes and IRQ domain ops like PolarFire.

plda_get_events() adds interrupt register to event num mapping codes
for PLDA local event except DMA engine interrupt events. The DMA engine
interrupt events are implemented by vendors.

Add PLDA host init and deinit functions. So vendor can use it to init
PLDA PCIe host core.

Subject: [PATCH v9 04/20] PCI: microchip: Add bridge_addr field to struct mc_pcie

For bridge address base is common PLDA field, Add this
to struct mc_pcie first.

INTx and MSI codes interrupts codes will get the bridge base
address from port->bridge_addr. For these codes will be
changed to common codes. axi_base_addr is Microchip its own
data.

Wrap all your commit logs to fill about 75 columns (as suggested
before). "git log" adds a few spaces, so if you fill to 75 columns,
the result will still fit in a default 80 column window.

Add blank line between paragraphs. Wrap to fill 75-78 columns.

I don't think you need to #include this. In this file you only use a
pointer to struct phy, so declaring the struct should be enough, e.g.,

struct phy;

You will have to #include it in pcie-starfive.c where you actually
*use* phy, of course.

> +#define CONFIG_SPACE_ADDR 0x1000u

This looks like an *offset* that you add to ->bridge_addr. Adding two
addresses together doesn't really make sense.

I think this should probably return PCIBIOS_SUCCESSFUL. There's
nothing wrong with the register number; you just want to pretend that
it's hardwired to zero. That means ignore writes and always return 0
for reads.

Set *value to zero and return PCIBIOS_SUCCESSFUL.

95% of this driver (and the rest of drivers/pci) is wrapped to fit in
80 columns, e.g.,

static int starfive_pcie_parse_dt(struct starfive_jh7110_pcie *pcie,
struct device *dev)

"id" is too generic and doesn't hint about where the problem is.
Update the message ("pcie id") to mention "domain" so it corresponds
with the source ("linux,pci-domain" from DT).

"failed to ... resets" is missing a word. "Failed to deassert
resets", I guess?

Use multiline comment formatting (also below):

Mention sec 6.6.1, where (I think) this value comes from. Eventually
we should make a #define for this because it's not specific to any one
PCIe controller.

We know the value here, so return it explicitly:

return 0;

How could it happen that "pcie" is zero? I think it could only happen
if there were a driver bug or a memory corruption. Either way, we
should remove the check so we take a NULL pointer fault and find out
about the problem.

I would like to add a new define in drivers/pci/pci.h:
/*
* PCIe r6.0, sec 6.6.1, <Conventional Reset>
* Requires a minimum waiting of 100ms before sending a configuration
* request to the device.
*/
#define PCIE_BEFORE_CONFIG_REQUEST_WAIT_MS 100

When drivers use it, they can put them into the right place depends on the link speed:
1) With a Downstream Port(<=5.0 GT/s), system waits after conventional reset done.
2) With a Downstream Port(> 5.0 GT/s), system waits after link training completes.

Thus, our code will be:
+ if (pcie->reset_gpio)
+ gpiod_set_value_cansleep(pcie->reset_gpio, 0);
+ /*
+ * With a Downstream Port (<=5GT/s), software must wait a minimum
+ * of 100ms following exit from a conventional reset before
+ * sending a configuration request to the device.
*/
- msleep(100);
+ msleep(PCIE_BEFORE_CONFIG_REQUEST_WAIT_MS);

Is that what you expected?

I suspect you don't mean that you tested this individual dt-binding, but
rather that you tested the whole series. If so, you should probably
provide this tested-by against the cover-letter instead of this bindings
patch.

Cheers,
Conor.

Yeah, otherwise I would like to hear how do you test bindings (other
than dt_binding_check which is something similar to testing as compiling
code).

Just FYI, it's not the PLDA IP's lack of an MSI controller, it's the SoC
itself that doesn't have one. Last time I spoke to Daire about this, he
was surprised that you didn't need something similar. I might reword
this as

"PolarFire SoC implements its own PCIe interrupts, additional to the
regular PCIe interrupts, due to the lack of an MSI controller, so the
interrupt to event number mapping is different to the PLDA local
interrupts, necessitating a custom get_events() implementation."

I'd probably also drop this, as it is evident from the diff.

Conor.

That is correct, I tested the entire series against Linux 6.6-rc7 and
confirmed that pcie/nvme/usb work on the VisionFive2 device. I was
unable to test the Microchip side of the equation. I will be more clear
as to what I verified if I comment in the future.
