Hi.
The subject gives the outline, and a brief scan of the archives didn't
yield anything useful.
I'm using kernel 2.6.6RC1, and I almost have the connecting working with
Gnokii to the phone. However, there are some weird things going on which
lead me to belioeve that something is wrong.
I can, using rfcomm, get a connection to the phone, however tearing it
down has strange results:
1. Once the connection is down, I can no longer ping the phone using
l2ping, though hcitool scan and info still work.
2. The command rfcomm release rfcomm0 yields a device not found error,
whereas the binding works without error.
In addition to this, if I use the gnokii --monitor command I can get a
response from the phone, however it sends one lot of data and then seems
to hang - the only way to end the Gnokii process is to move to another
console and use the kill command, as ctrl-c doesn't work.
I'm puzzled, as I seem almost to be there but somehow seem to be missing
one step.
Oh yes, and one final thing, rfcomm -a gives no output, despite the fact
that I created rfcomm0 and it seems to work,
rfcomm connect rfcomm0 00:60:57:69:CB:18
will get me an rfcomm connection to the phone.

After reset the device doesn't respind anymore. I have no clue why, but
this is a common error, seems to be a misbehaviour of the dongle. You
can't do much about it then just reinsert the dongle.

Ok, I turned off the SCO options, but have another problem which was, I=20
think, there earlier. Anyway, if I issue the command:

it eventually says that it times out initialising the device, the hcidump=
=20
log is very short.

You need the HCI_USB SCO option for audio transfer, only. For example if
you use the Headset or Handsfree profile. For data transfer there is no
need for SCO support. You are using RFCOMM which uses ACL links.
And >= 2.6.6-mh1 there shouldn't be any problems with the SCO
support activated.
Maybe you can run hcidump while your problem appears and provide here
the log.

The problem here is that I have a usb bluetooth device, so according to
the kernel help I need this option, so yes, I do have it.

To my understanding you dont have to bind a /dev/rfcommX to connect. Using bind
means that you "prepare" that /dev/rfcommX to connect to the peer when someone uses
the /dev/rfcommX. If you use the rfcomm connect /dev/rfcommX <bd-adress> <channel>
this connection will be made instantly and will be closed after ctrl-c or
dissconect of the peer.
The channel number must be the number of the channel on the phone you want to connect.
To find the channelnumber of a profile use sdptool and its browse or serach command.

# CONFIG_BT_HCIUSB_SCO is not set
in .config (or /proc/config.gz) ?
On my machine (a Sony C1VFK Picturebook)
I had more or less your problems when this was set.

I give the command "rfcomm release 0".
But if "rfcomm -a" says nothing,
I would have doubts if binding did work.

I tried this, but despite having all the hot-plugging options enabled in
the kernel and starting hot-plugging and making sure all the options look
right, sometime I can take the device out of the usb socket and the system
is ok, but even if it is, when I put it back it locks the system hard. I
wonder if this is because I have everything compiled into the kernel? The
hot-plugging documentation and script comments only talk of modules, is
this my problem?
Also, my 6310I stops responding after one Gnokii command, this may be a
gnokii problem I'm not sure, I'll put it to that list.
