Subject: [PATCH v6 0/2] IMX GPCv2 drivers for wakeup source and suspend

IMX7D contains a new version of GPC IP block (GPCv2). It has two
major functions: power management and wakeup source management.

Two drivers were developed to support these functions:
One irqchip driver (irq-imx-gpcv2.c) is to manage
the interrupt wakeup source. One suspend driver (pm-imx7.c) is used
to manage the system power states.

Patch V6:
Clean up the codes (irq-imx-gpcv2.c) according to the review
feedback of Thomas Glx
Use raw_spin_lock in the irq_mask and irq_unmask callbacks
Split the struct definition into two: irqchip and suspend
Unified coding style

Patch V5:
Splitted it into two patches per Thomas Gleixner suggestion.
-- one for irqchip
-- one for suspend

Patch V4:
Splitted the driver into two function drivers: one irqchip driver
for wakeup source management, and one suspend driver for power
state management.

Patch V3:
Added the assemble codes (suspend-imx7.S) for SUSPEND_MEM state.
Supported the SUSPEND_MEM power mode.

Patch V2:
Added the basic driver APIs for power management.
Supported the STANDBY power mode.

Patch V1:
Implemented the driver for IRQ wakeup sources.

Subject: [PATCH v6 1/2] irqchip: imx-gpcv2: IMX GPCv2 driver for wakeup sources

IMX7D contains a new version of GPC IP block (GPCv2). It has two
major functions: power management and wakeup source management.
This patch adds a new irqchip driver to manage the interrupt wakeup
sources on IMX7D.
When the system is in WFI (wait for interrupt) mode, this GPC block
will be the first block on the platform to be activated and signaled.
Under normal wait mode during cpu idle, the system can be woke up
by any enabled interrupts. Under standby or suspend mode, the system
can only be woke up by the pre-defined wakeup sources.

Subject: [PATCH v6 2/2] ARM: imx: Add suspend codes for imx7D

IMX7D contains a new version of GPC IP block (GPCv2). It has two
major functions: power management and wakeup source management.

GPCv2 provides low power mode control for Cortex-A7 and Cortex-M4
domains. And it can support WAIT, STOP, and DSM(Deep Sleep Mode) modes.
After configuring the GPCv2 module, the platform can enter into a
selected mode either automatically triggered by ARM WFI instruction or
manually by software. The system will exit the low power states
by the predefined wakeup sources which are managed by the gpcv2
irqchip driver.

This patch adds a new suspend driver to manage the power states on IMX7D.
It currently supports "SUSPEND_STANDBY" and "SUSPEND_MEM" states.

I was thinking to use one spin_lock between the current two modules. But it should be
okay to use a dedicate one for irqchip.

PM driver does depend on the irqchip driver. It needs some input like enabled irqs and
wakeup irqs to decide which module to be powered off in low power states. I am also
considering if the header file could be removed or not. So far it seems a common place
to define a structure which is used in both drivers is still required.

Please be more specific. Trimming the header down to the macros and
structures/fields that are necessary to be in the header might be a good
idea. And then we can go through them one by one to see if there is a
way to avoid them being in the header.

The following structure is currently used in both drivers. The members "gpc_base/
wakeup_sources/enabled_irqs" are now shared to PM driver. And the macro IMR_NUM
will be referred by both drivers too.

CONFIG_IMX_GPCV2 is more suitable here. As long as a SOC has the same GPCv2 block, the codes should be reused.

Let's see what problem it will have. Saying GPCv2 block is used on
imx8, we will have something like below.

obj-$(CONFIG_IMX_GPCV2) += suspend-imx7.o pm-imx7.o suspend-imx8.o pm-imx8.o

If people want to build a kernel with imx8 support only, suspend-imx7.o
and pm-imx7.o will also be built in there, which is undesirable.

The files are named with "-imx7". It's a clear sign that the build of
the files should be controlled by something like related to "imx7".
Ideally, it should be CONFIG_SOC_IMX7. Since imx7d is the only
supported imx7 soc and there is no CONFIG_SOC_IMX7 available so far,

I don't think so. If imx8 use the same GPCv2 block, there should be no pm-imx8.o and suspend-imx8.o.
We should try to reuse the existing ones.

In that case you should name the block gpc-imx7d rather than gpcv2 and
symbol as GPC_IMX7D rather than IMX_GPCV2.

You didn't get my point. Rather than defining it as a global variable,
we should try to keep imx_gpcv2_irq as an internal data structure to
irqchip driver, and use well-defined interface to access the data from
pm driver when necessary.

I don't want to couple the gpcv2 driver with a SoC. Let's use your suggestion CONFIG_SOC_IMX7D
for now, because it introduce less modifications.

Either to export a variable or a function, you will finally meet the same problem
:where to declare it? Otherwise the same compile error will happen too.

So far, only IMX7D use this GPC.
i.MX8 will use system controller to control power.
